HOLLOW POINTS FOR CONCEALED CARRY
A hollow point is an expanding round with a hollowed out point. The objective of a hollow point is to cause maximum shock and expansion when it hits your target. Hollow points differ from full metal jackets (FMJ) by having a hollowed out point. Full metal jacket rounds are a solid bullet with a rounded point that is not hollowed out. Hollow points are the choice of law enforcement and concealed carriers across the country. Hollow points are the chosen rounds because they stay in the attacker were FMJ rounds can over penetrate. The problem with over penetration is they go through your target and can hurt or kill a innocent bystander. FMJ rounds can even over penetrate and pass through walls and other objects hitting unwanted targets. NYPD in 1998 did research and documented that 46% of innocent bystanders that were struck by police bullets were hit by rounds that went through an attacker’s body. Hollow points are usually more expensive than FMJ rounds. At the local gun shop hollow points will run you around 26 dollars for 20 rounds. At the same shop full metal jacket rounds with run you about 12 dollars for 50 rounds. There is a big price difference with hollow points being about a dollar a round. When your debating about getting hollow points and spending the money think are you really going to put a price on your life? Are you really going to risk over penetrating and hurting a bystander? I don’t think you are. You are ultimately responsible for every round that comes out of your firearm make the right choice and carry hollow points.
