Stop Being Ashamed of Your Gun!
You are a responsible citizen. You work hard and play hard. You take care of your family and you stepped up to the plate and made the decision that you were going to be the line of protection drawn in the sand between threats and your family. You are not going to be a victim. You are not going to allow someone else to impose their will upon you. You are a responsible gun owner/concealed carrier. If this is YOU, then I applaud you. As a law enforcement officer, I wholeheartedly believe in your right to defend yourself and the one’s you love. So, let me ask you a question….”Why are you afraid to tell others about your decision?” I’ve spoken to people who tell me things like, “My family would never understand” Or “The people at work don’t like guns and so I don’t talk about it with them”.
Well, there’s three questions that need to be asked.
1) Does a person possess the legal right to defend themselves against unlawful attack?
2) Do you believe that the police are required to protect you by law?
3) If someone is trying to kill you or a loved one, is it legal to use a hammer as a tool to stop them? …is it legal to use a knife to stop them? …a gun to stop them?
Let’s break this down for you. Question One should be easy for you to answer and if you ask another person and they start off with ANYTHING other than a resounding “YES”, then you have encountered a kook and that person will be unable to engage you in any sort of intellectual conversation. If someone can’t even answer “yes” to that question then you will never get through to them. Please don’t try. Anyone that doesn’t believe that you have the right to defend yourself against an attacker is lost. Let them stay that way. Save the one’s you can save.
Question Two is a bit tricky. Most people will answer “Yes” to this question and believe they are correct. I’m here to tell you some bad news folks…..but the gun that I’m carrying is to defend ME not YOU. I know….it sounds harsh, but it’s technically true. You see, this has gone all of the way to the United States Supreme Court on multiple occasions. Look up two easy cases right now. Warren v. District of Columbia (444 A.2d. 1, D.C. Ct. of Ap. 1981) and Castle Rock v. Gonzales, 545 U.S. 748 (2005). Castle Rock v. Gonzales was even very recent, 2005. In both of these cases the Supreme Court ruled that police do not have the duty to protect you, so let me ask you this question, “If the police have no legal requirement to protect you, then who is responsible for you or your family’s protection?” I know that you have already answered that question and that’s why you are a part of the Phase Line Defense family. IT’S YOUR DUTY TO PROTECT YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONE’S. Now, this being said, MOST police are like myself and we have a strong commitment to service of the American people and will, in most cases, do what needs to be done to stop threats that present themselves. That’s why we train hard and that’s why you should also train hard.
Question Three is also a no brainer and much like Question One, and if someone cannot just answer “YES”, then you’re not dealing with someone who is capable of cognitive thought and it’s best that you no longer engage with that person. If a bad person is trying to kill you or a loved one then it’s game on, folks. “Gregory the Gangster” has made a bad life decision and he’s just mixed you up in the middle of it and it’s time for you to act. This is the point in time that you will need to tap into that training that you’ve done and you are going to have to act decisively and reasonably.
I want you, the responsible gun owner/concealed carrier to stand up straight, tall and proud. You’ve made the decision that you aren’t going to allow bad things to happen to you and your family. You will not stand down against the threat, and you most certainly aren’t going to cower to the irrational thought processes of a leming. You stand tall for what you believe in and you stop letting people make you feel ashamed that you are a gun owner or a gun carrier. You are the one that understands your rights and roles. You are the one that understands that bad things can happen anywhere at any time and YOU are the one that is going to be prepared. I always tell people, “I’m not paranoid, I’m prepared!” You damn right I am!!
